Planning for a Prosperous Year
In planning for 2021, I asked myself a question that had a bit of a twist: When I look back on 2021, what will I have created?
In past years, the question looked more like this:
What are my goals for 2021?
What do I want to accomplish in 2021? Or even
How do I want to feel in 2021?
But this year, I acknowledged something new in my business. It is the primary expression of my creativity. This is why "created" resonated more with me than "accomplished" or "earned."
Something else I appreciate about this new question is that it puts me in a state of reflection. Rather than looking forward to a future that is yet to come.
The impact of this question on my planning process hit me after I stumbled upon my most dreaded answer to it:
Nothing.
Considering this option propelled me into motion where I had been stuck, stagnant for a while.
❌ Not clear about my next step.
❌ Not knowing why I actually do what I do.
But considering my most case scenario inspired helpful new questions like:
What’s the purpose of my business?
What are my business values?
What contribution am I making and to whom?
What does creativity mean to me?
How do I design a plan that honors not only revenue but also creation?
